About Sirdar Jewelspun Aran yarn
Created by Sirdar, Jewelspun blends lustrous colours to mimic the popular hand spun look. Sirdar Jewelspun is a soft, light aran weight yarn. It is easy to work with and easy to care for.
Sirdar Jewelspun aran yarn is ideal for knitted blankets, crochet blankets and cushion covers or for jumpers or cardigans.
With its high meterage you will only need 3 balls for a size 12/14 women's garment, check your own aran pattern for yarn requirements.
What is "meterage" in knitting?
Sometimes it's not enough to think just about the number of balls you may need to knit a garment. Different fibres have different weights
For example, wool is heavier than acrylic, so it you have a 50g ball of wool it will have less meters than a 50g ball of acrylic yarn.
If you are using an old favourite pattern of yours check out the meterage of the yarn it used, if it was a pure wool say 90m per 50g. Say the pattern needs 18 balls, 18 x 90 = 1620m. Therefore (bear with me) you would need 4 balls of Jewelspun.
This should calculate a more accurate yarn requirement.
What is aran weight yarn?
Aran weight yarn is the next weight up from double knit. Sirdar Jewelspun aran is ideal for adult sweaters, scarves, hats and blankets.
There is of course the style of knitting called Aran typified by cable patterns and should not be muddled with Aran weight yarn.
Typically aran weight yarn is used with a 5mm knitting needle.
Aran weight yarn is known in the US as "worsted yarn".
